Spark Studio is a joyful, purposeful environment where young children begin building the habits that make learning work.
Through purposeful play, beautiful Montessori materials, meaningful work, and hands-on exploration, learners develop concentration, independence, self-control, kindness, and the quiet confidence that comes from doing more for themselves each day.
Each day combines structure and freedom in a warm, encouraging environment where children are known, challenged, and celebrated.
Spark lays a strong foundation for Elementary while introducing the habits, routines, and culture that define Acton Academy Lakewood.
What Spark Learners Experience
Every day in Spark, learners:
- ✅ Build early reading, writing, and mathematics skills with Montessori materials.
- ✅ Develop concentration, coordination, and independence through purposeful work.
- ✅ Listen to excellent stories and discuss big ideas together.
- ✅ Explore science, history, art, and nature through hands-on experiences.
- ✅ Practice movement, outdoor play, and healthy habits every day.
- ✅ Learn to make choices, keep simple commitments, and reflect on their day.
- ✅ Learn kindness, responsibility, and respect by caring for themselves, one another, and their environment.

Part of a Whole-School Community
Spark learners are part of the larger Acton Academy Lakewood community.
They know the Elementary and Middle School learners, look up to them, and celebrate their successes. Older learners enjoy encouraging the younger ones, creating a school culture where children of different ages genuinely know one another.
Is My Child Ready for Spark?
Spark is designed for children who are:
- At least 3 years old
- No longer napping during the day
- Fully independent in the bathroom
- Ready for a full school day (8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.)*
*Half days are available upon request as a transition option.
For children who are already 5 years old, we also look for early reading readiness:
- Knows most letter sounds
- Can rhyme and identify beginning sounds
- Can blend and segment simple spoken words

To protect the focus of the studio, tours take place outside school hours. After your visit, you'll have the opportunity to schedule a classroom observation and experience Spark in action.
