Enrolling my daughter at Acton Academy of Lakewood has been one of the best decisions we’ve made as a family. From the very first day, she has looked forward to going to school, filled with excitement and curiosity. It’s truly heartwarming to see her eagerness each morning, knowing that she’s stepping into an environment that not only challenges her academically but also nurtures her personal growth.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Acton Academy is the way they prioritize student-led learning while fostering a strong sense of community. Molly and Dominick, the dedicated and passionate guides, are instrumental in creating this vibrant atmosphere. Their unwavering support and commitment to each child’s individual journey make a world of difference. They genuinely care about the students’ growth, both academically and socially, and it shows in every interaction.

I have watched my daughter flourish in so many ways since starting at Acton. Not only is she thriving academically, but her confidence has soared. She is more willing to take on leadership roles and is developing invaluable social skills through collaborative learning and real-world projects. The school’s unique approach has empowered her to take ownership of her education and embrace challenges with a positive mindset.

As a parent, seeing your child truly happy and engaged at school is priceless. We have three kids at Acton Lakewood and feel so lucky to have found it! It is eye opening to see a school that gives so much autonomy to the kids while still keeping appropriate guardrails up when needed. It is thrilling as parents to watch our kids feel so empowered in their own education. The school teaches real world skills - how to give/take feedback, set and achieve goals (or if you're not achieving them, take a critical look at why and adjust), work constructively as a team, learn from consequences, and agree to disagree while still having respectful, constructive conversations. All three of our kids have different skills/weaknesses academically, and the beauty of Acton is that they are able to grow and learn at their own pace. We have seen tremendous growth, both academically and socially, in all three since starting.

We couldn't recommend Acton Academy Lakewood enough! Thank you Molly, Dominick, and Cynthia for all that you do and have given our kiddos!!

Our 4-year-old started at Acton Academy in January, and even in this short time, we’ve seen an incredible transformation. His curiosity has flourished, he’s more eager to try new things, his speech has improved, and he’s developed strong friendships. The growth in his confidence and independence has been amazing to watch.

Acton’s curriculum is truly unique—it’s centered around real-world learning and problem-solving at its core. They don’t just teach; they empower kids to think critically, take ownership of their learning, and embrace challenges with resilience. It’s beyond impressive to see how they cultivate these skills at such a young age.

Beyond the academics, the sense of community at Acton is something special. The dedication of the teachers and the support from fellow families make it feel like more than just a school—it’s a family. We are so grateful to be part of this journey and can’t wait to see how our child continues to grow!

My family has been blown away by our experience at Acton Academy Lakewood. This isn’t just a school—it’s a thriving community where our five year old son is growing into a confident, curious, and independent learner. One of the standout aspects is the incredible families who make up this school. Everyone is so warm, engaged, and genuinely invested in each other’s success. From collaborative events to spontaneous playdates, the sense of connection here is unlike anything we’ve seen elsewhere—parents aren’t just spectators; they’re active participants in this journey. In fact, it’s a requirement IN the contract that parents sign before the child starts school.

The self-paced, student-driven learning model has ignited a love for learning in our son, and the “guides” are exceptional at fostering his natural strengths while encouraging him to tackle challenges. A simple example of how the school’s influence extends beyond the classroom is that my son has started incorporating school routines and bringing them home. One of the things we do every night at dinner time is 'character call-outs,' something Acton Lakewood does at the end of every day. It typically starts with my son raising his hand at the table spontaneously. I call on him, and he’ll go through the formula for a great character call-out: 'I saw Momma doing XYZ, and she was really trying to help me and look out for me—I’d call that leadership and being thoughtful.' I’m over the moon. This practice has taught my son to observe behavior, call out good actions in front of a group, and instills a deep sense of gratitude among everyone. Even my two-year-old tries! It’s really amazing how these lessons ripple into our home life.

At the end of every 'session,' the learners put on an exhibition that showcases everything they’ve learned—it’s incredible to see how well-spoken and confident all the learners are. Even the Sparks, the youngest among them, are engaged and bold. There are no shrinking violets at this school! Molly, Dominick, and Cynthia are the heart of Acton Lakewood, and they are incredible guides. Their patience and unwavering support create an environment where every child thrives. I couldn’t ask for a better group to guide my son on his hero’s journey. Add to that the emphasis on real-world skills, character development (extreme ownership), and a tight-knit group of peers who cheer each other on, and you’ve got a recipe for something truly special. Acton Academy Lakewood isn’t just shaping our son’s education—it’s shaping our family for the better. We’re so grateful to be part of this remarkable community!

We are coming up on one year at Acton Academy Lakewood and in that short time, our 11-year-old has grown by leaps and bounds. We tried home school and traditional school and neither gave our child the right amount of structure and autonomy that she needed to thrive. We toured several schools and she was adamant that Acton Academy Lakewood was the school for her. The school has enough structure to keep her focused while giving her the freedom to set her own goals and manage her own education. She feels empowered. Her math fluency has grown significantly (that was a problem area for her) as have her time management skills. As parents, we enjoy the end of session learner-led exhibitions that allow us to see what the students have accomplished each session. They all have so much pride in their work. Their excitement is contagious! We could not be more pleased with our daughter’s decision to attend Acton Academy Lakewood and look forward to the years to come.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Acton Academy Lakewood! Like so many other parents have said, my child LOVES going to school. He’s 4, and our mornings used to be a heartbreaking struggle at his previous school. Now, he wakes up excited and happy to go to school every day—something I never imagined would be possible.

We were initially drawn to Acton because of its unique philosophy (if you haven’t already, read "8 Things We Don’t Do" on their website), and in real life, it’s even better than we expected. The way they bring these principles to life is nothing short of incredible.

My favorite things about Acton:

1. Kids spend a meaningful amount of time outdoors—not just a quick 30-minute recess, but real time to explore, play, and use their imaginations.

2. Parents are engaged in their children's education and experience here. I've been able to connect with and get to know other parents. So many studies have shown a strong correlation between parental involvement in a child's education and improved academic achievement. This is the mark of a good school in my opinion!

3. Acton has made me a better parent—I learn so much from the guides, other parents, and the school’s philosophy.

4. The teachers (guides) are phenomenal—so caring and intentional. They don’t just teach; they help children grow into independent, thoughtful, self-sufficient humans.

If you're looking for a school that nurtures curiosity, independence, and a genuine love of learning, I can't recommend Acton Academy Lakewood enough!

Acton Academy Lakewood has completely redefined what school can/should be. This school doesn’t just teach kids—it empowers them. Acton’s self-paced, student-led approach fosters independence, confidence, and real critical thinking.

Instead of memorizing facts for a test, our child is learning to ask big questions, engage in discussions, and challenge herself in ways that actually matter. They understand that kids thrive when they’re treated like capable humans rather than test-taking machines.

Beyond academics, Acton values curiosity, perseverance, and respect—things that actually prepare kids for life. They learn by doing, thinking, and questioning, not by passively absorbing what others say. And yes, they even get to go outside (a lot!) because education doesn’t just happen at a desk.

Molly and Dominick have built something truly special here. Their passion is evident, and it’s clear they care deeply about every learner. If you’re looking for a school where your child is more than just a number, where learning is dynamic and personal, and where kids are genuinely excited about their education, Acton Academy is the place.

Fair warning: once they start, your kid might actually like school!

We are incredibly grateful for our experience at Acton Academy. Two of our daughters have flourished under the exceptional care and leadership of the teachers here. The growth we’ve seen in them this past year has exceeded our expectations.

Teachers and Staff:
The passion and dedication of the staff at Acton Academy have truly made a difference in our daughters' lives. The teachers/guides have helped them develop a deep love for learning and leadership, making learning fun and engaging while nurturing their confidence and curiosity. We couldn't be more thankful for the outstanding educators who embody everything Acton stands for.

Philosophy:
Acton Academy’s unique approach to education focuses on developing independent, respectful, critical thinkers who love to learn. The self-paced, student-driven model allows each child to thrive in their own way. Our daughters have gained invaluable skills that will serve them well in their future educational journeys.

Overall Experience:
We are immensely grateful for the time they spent at Acton Academy. The impact of the teachers and the school's philosophy will be lasting. Our kids WANT to go to school everyday and hate missing. They also have long excited answers to the question, "how was school today?". No more apathetic, one word answers that we used to get at other schools: fine, good, OK, terrible, etc. Everyday is truly interesting and exciting!

For anyone considering a different model of education, we wholeheartedly recommend taking a chance on Acton Academy. It has been a transformative experience for our family, and we are confident it will be for yours as well.

We have two boys at Acton Lakewood. One started this year in Kindergarten and the other started in Kindergarten and is now in 4th grade. We love the way the program honors their natural curiosity, helps them tap into their unique gifts, and empowers them with agency. We love how they take a Socratic approach to learning. This has really equipped my oldest to ask questions, explore his individual opinions, and encourages him to respect others differences. We are so thankful to have found this school and community.

I am very grateful we found this Acton Academy as our kids (5 & 9) have had tremendous growth since starting. They love going to school and have told me they are “sad its the weekend because they can’t go to school” (lol)

Before, my oldest was afraid of speaking out in public,but was able to lead an end of term exhibition where all his classmates, and their families were there. He was able to get everyone’s attention and kick off the event without a hitch!

My youngest is a sponge, and loves soaking up all of the knowledge and skills he can. Ms. Cynthia(Sparks Studio Guide) has been able to guide him and present new challenges. He hadn’t started learning to read until we started here, but now is tackling big words.

I think more than anything, they have learned that a little perseverance can go a long way. They are building a great mindset that will be unstoppable. There are many other great things that I haven't mentioned here. IF you are curious, definitely give Acton a shot. Molly and Dominick run a great school, and you can tell they really love each of the learners.

So glad we found Acton Academy Lakewood!

Searching for a new school for our kiddos was weighing on us.

Not only the location, but overall philosophy is what immediately lead me from just researching to making an appointment to tour the school.

We love how the curriculum meets our kids where they are at and also pushes their comfort zones in the right way that has shown huge growth in them as people and their academics.

We appreciate that we are still in control of our kids and family is at the center. We do not run into any of the issues we had to deal with when we were in public school ourselves (the reasons we will never send our kids there)

I am so thankful for Molly and Dominick, Ms Cynthia, and the other families and kids who all make this school amazing. We were all welcomed with open arms and my kids now have best friends close to home.

We've seen so much growth in our three children from their years at Acton Academy Lakewood! Each morning, our oldest kiddo is ready on time for school, supportive of his siblings to get out the door and has stepped up in a leadership role. At school, he has taken ownership of himself and learned to demonstrate remarkable commitment and independence toward his academic goals.

Our younger girls (4 and 5) enjoy the balance of Montessori in the morning and outside free play in the afternoon, and are coming right along in their reading and math skills.

Most of all, our children are accepted for who they are and their lights are burning bright! They speak up for themselves, share ideas, and know how to respectfully agree or disagree with their peers. They have agency, which means the world to us.

There will never be enough amazing things to say about this school!

I can't tell you how grateful we are to have found Acton Academy!

- Our daughter is just not built to be lectured at.

- She just not going to learn by memorization and regurgitating facts.

- We're not interested in whether or not she fills in the right bubbles on the standardized tests that dominate the metric-driven school landscape.

- She needs to engage directly with a curriculum that is in contact with the pace of her growth and is constantly pushing her just beyond the edges of her capabilities.

- She needs to be outside. A lot. Learning happens through play and unplanned social interaction in a healthy environment. (There's just too much evidence of this for it to be ignored. It's not happening in the traditional school environment because of lack of resources, not because the jury is still out.)

- We want her to build confidence and find her voice, not learn to be quiet and conform.

- We want her to engage with challenging ideas and learn to think critically, developing her own conceptual framework, and not just regurgitate the "right" ideas.

- She needs to be around other children who also are engaged, who also are finding their voice, who also are learning the socratic method, who also are learning to think critically, who are also in the drivers seats of their own journeys. She needs a community of children who push each other and support each others growth, not just suffer through the day.

Is your family like our family? Is your child like our little lady? You just found the right place.

We have loved Acton Academy for both of our boys, one preschool and one elementary. They have both grown academically, but we’ve seen so much progress in areas of personal responsibility, leadership and their relationships to peers. Molly and Dominick have created a great school atmosphere, and we look forward to our kids’ continued growth under their guidance.

We moved across the country so that our daughter could attend this school and we would do it again in a heartbeat. She loves going to school each day and it is a joy to see how much she is learning. We love the learner-driven Acton model. The owners/guides at Acton Academy Lakewood put so much thought, care, and passion into recognizing each child’s unique potential and supporting their growth. I cannot imagine finding a better school.

We have attended Acton Academy Lakewood for a few years and it is such an amazing school! We love the learner-driven environment, the Acton philosophy, and the curriculum. The head of school and staff are incredibly friendly, supportive, and communicate very well. We love that our child can learn at her own pace and that she is in a mixed-age environment. We highly recommend taking a tour of the school to see if it is also the right fit for your family.

Moving our children to Acton Academy was one of the best decisions we could’ve made. Learning is now fun for him, and he begs to go to school. Getting excited for snow days or school holidays is a thing of the past. The guides at this school love your children as if they were their own. My children have gained so much independence here while not only learning important life skills but excelling academically as well. And lastly, the learners have a voice in everything they do and That has built so much confidence and independence at such a young age. It is truly remarkable!

Our boys have been attending this school since January of 2020, and when the covid pandemic/lockdown hit in March, Molly and Dominick of Acton Academy Lakewood didn't skip a beat! They made the transition to homeschool so much easier with their weekly learning kits they prepared for us, as well as the daily videos and Zoom calls.

When our boys first started school, they were a bit apprehensive, but Molly was so patient and calm and caring. Now, our boys love going to school! I love the Socratic philosophy of the school. I love how much play is involved in their learning. And I love that they get a lot of outside play.

Another thing to note, our boys have grown so much mentally and emotionally. They have learned so much when it comes to education and academics, but they have also learned how to manage their emotions and frustrations better.

Molly and Dominick are such amazing teachers and guides and leaders. They are open-minded. They are helpful. And they are understanding. This school has been a dream come true. I would highly recommend this school to any and everyone.
